The first of four judges on The Voice UK, Jessie J, has said that she wants contestants on the new reality series to write and perform their own music on the show. Talking after being revealed as the first coach of the BBC One talent search, the British singing sensation said she didn’t want to hear covers being performed.

Speaking to The Sun, Jessie explained: “I want my artists to start writing songs straight away, if they haven’t already.

The hip hop star, who picked up four Mobo awards this week, also insisted she wouldn’t make the show about herself: “If people want to whip up boring stories that are totally unrelated to the programme they can do that, but I am going to be totally focusing on what I need to be doing.

Meanwhile with Jessie J confirmed, there’s still three “musical superstars” to be revealed – but Jessie insists she’s being kept in the dark just like the rest of us!

I have no idea who else is doing it,” she said.

Stars linked to the show include Lenny Kravitz, Robbie Williams, Will Young and Adele.
